PLACING OUR CHILDREN IN THE HANDS OF PSYCHIATRY
Wednesday, August 5, 2009
Subcommittees in the House and Senate have worked on two versions of the Health Care Reform act. Senators and Representatives will use the August recess to gauge the opinion of their constituents about the proposed legislation.
President Obama has said he wants a bill on his desk for signature before the end of this year. The bills are essentially similar. Both would require over $1 trillion dollars in funding, to be paid for by some forms of tax increases.
It is vital that you quickly let your elected representatives know that you do not want a Health Care Reform act that increases the power and control by psychiatrists over our children.
Because that is exactly what these bills would do. This is how:
SCHOOL-BASED HEALTH CLINICS
Up to $5 billion per year would go to school-based health clinics for mental-health screening, crisis intervention, treatment, counseling and referral to emergency psychiatric care. This would:
· Greatly increase the number of children on psychotropic drugs. if parents were to object to such medication, they can find themselves accused of neglect.
· Increase the number of children labeled with a behavioral or learning disorder. This diagnosis would then be entered into school records and would follow these children throughout their lives.
· Increase the number of involuntary commitments of children.
· Cause an increase in physical ailments among children, including diabetes, and mental debilities such as hallucinations and delusions.
· Increase the number of suicides by children.
· Increase the number of school shootings–the majority of such tragedies in the USA have been caused by child shooters on psychotropic drugs.
(See the FDA “black box” warnings on the left side panel.)
COMMUNITY-BASED HEALTH TEAMS
The legislation would provide for community-based health teams and establish a system of “early identification and referral” for children at risk for “developmental or behavioral problems.”
PARA-PROFESSIONAL MENTAL HEALTH WORKER
A new position would be created: the “para-professional child and adolescent mental health worker.” This would not be a mental-health professional but someone who works at the first stage of contact with children and families who are seeking mental or behavioral health services.
MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPISTS
Specific funding would go to therapists who specialize in marriage or family matters.
HOME VISITATION PROGRAM
The legislation would create a home visitation program for families with young children or families who are expecting children and who have certain “risk factors.” The program provides assessments for “age appropriate behavior” for children.
MENTAL HEALTH PARITY
The legislation mandates a sweeping mental health parity, opening the door to coverage for such diagnoses as “sibling rivalry disorder” or anything else listed in the psychiatric Diagnostic and Statistical Manual.
UNLIMITED MENTAL HEALTH BENEFITS
The bills provide for unlimited mental-health benefits. There would be no cap placed on this. It would create a financial windfall for psychiatrists and the psychotropic drug industry simply because there are no objective medical tests for mental disorders. Only the opinion of the psychiatrist counts. Any non-optimum personal situation that a child experiences would be the purview of psychiatric diagnosis and “treatment” with psychotropic drugs or ETC (electroshock therapy).
Make your opinion known to your elected representatives. Tell them you strongly oppose the inclusion in the proposed legislation of any mental health programs that affect children. You can pick a few of the points above, and email your senators and representative that you request that they oppose the passing of legislation that includes any of these points.
No matter how you say it, make your voice heard while there still is time. If we fail, America’s children could be doomed psychiatric control for generations to come!
Please also forward this email to your friends and contacts and ask for their help to stop this. We can change it if enough of us speak up quickly and demand action!
